Frequently Asked Questions
What aspect ratio should I use for Instagram?
Instagram has three crop ratios depending on post type. Square posts use 1:1 (1080×1080px) — use our 1:1 preset. Portrait posts use 4:5 (1080×1350px), which gives more screen space in the feed. Landscape posts use 1.91:1 (1080×566px). Instagram Stories and Reels use 9:16 (1080×1920px) — crop to the 9:16 ratio for these.
What size should a YouTube thumbnail be?
YouTube thumbnails are 1280×720 pixels at a 16:9 aspect ratio. Use our 16:9 preset to crop your image to the correct ratio. After cropping, use our Image Resizer at trendproservices.co.uk/tools/image-resizer to set the exact pixel dimensions to 1280×720px. YouTube recommends thumbnails under 2MB in JPG, PNG or GIF format.
Can I crop to an exact pixel size?
You can draw any crop area and see the exact pixel dimensions live as you drag. For pixel-perfect sizing, crop to the correct aspect ratio first using our presets, then use the Image Resizer to set the exact output dimensions you need.
Are my images uploaded to a server when I crop them?
No. All cropping uses the HTML5 Canvas API and runs entirely in your browser. Your images are never uploaded, transmitted or stored anywhere. This works even if you disconnect from the internet after loading the page.
What image formats can I upload and download?
You can upload JPG, PNG, WEBP and most common image formats. The cropped output can be downloaded as either JPG or PNG — select your preferred format before clicking Download. Use PNG if the image has a transparent background that you want to preserve.
